I can’t wait. This is going to be my favorite week of the year. I get to talk about my favorite subject all week. This is going to be fun. You wouldn’t believe how fast my fingers are typing right now. Words are just appearing on the screen as fast as I can read them. It’s incredible. I’m pumped up because this week is …
DISNEY HOTEL WEEK!!!! (and the crowd goes wild)
Good Morning at the Port Orleans Riverside - Photo by Express Monorail
Everyday this week (except for Disney Cruise Friday and Healthy Habits Saturday of course) we’ll be talking about the Disney Hotels. Dad always recommends staying in a Disney Hotel. OK, maybe not always and we’ll talk about staying off-site next week. But for this week it’s all about the Magic of Disney Resorts.
Tomorrow we’ll start with the Value Resorts. If you’ve read much of my stuff you know I love the Pop Century, so I love talking about the Value Resorts. Tuesday, we’ll move on to the Moderate Resorts. I’m not such a big fan of the Moderates (and I’ll tell you why Tuesday), but they are nice hotels. We will be spending a week in one (Coronado Springs) on our big vacation.
Wednesday its the top of the line Deluxe Resorts. My favorite hotel in the world is the Polynesian Resort, so talking about the Deluxe Resorts always thrills me. Thursday we’ll finish up with the biggies, the Disney Vacation Club resorts, better know as the Deluxe Villa Resorts.
This is exciting.
So, what are we going to talk about each day? We’ll talk about the pros and cons of staying at each level. Yes, we’ll talk just a little about each hotel, but I think at this stage, when we’re trying to figure out which hotel to stay in, it would be more important to figure out which level of hotel will best match our budget and our family.
And no, this is not going to be a week long commercial for Dad’s Disney Hotel ebooks. I promise, I’ll only mention them once a day. Honestly, they are good books and well worth the minor pittance Dad’s asking for them.
By the end of the week you should have a good idea of the Disney Hotel that will be the Perfect Place to Sleep. Sound like fun? See you tomorrow.
Disney is axing the daily newspaper delivery at the Disney Hotels. No longer will you rush out of your room in the morning only to trip over the Daily Planet (or whatever newspaper they put there) and fall flat on your face. At Walt Disney World papers were delivered to all the Deluxe Resorts.
You can still get a free newspaper at stands near the elevators. Inquiring minds will now have to go search out the news for themselves.
Getting healthy doesn’t have to be hard. It can be fun. Today, I’ve asked my friend Sherri to share with us some tips for making our weight loss challenge fun.
Sherri was one of the first members of Dad’s Healthy Habits Support Group. If you haven’t joined yet, (and most of you haven’t) shame on you (just kidding). We’re having a lot of fun over there. Come join in.
So for today, I’m going to take a back seat and let Sherri tell you how to create your own Healthy Habits Disney Movie. It’s really good.
It’s an honor to be asked by Dad to be a guest speaker. Living in South Florida just a short drive from Disney World, I’ve been there many times with my family.
The trip to Disney is not only fun and exciting, it can be exhausting. Dad has set a goal to get in shape for his upcoming trip so that he will be able to fully enjoy it. He said he wants to lose 20 pounds in nine months and to be walking 3 miles per day. These are very attainable goals. But sorry, Dad, they are a little lackluster and I think they can be improved.
The magic of Disney lies in the creativity of bringing dreams to life. Every ride at Disney is designed to appeal to your senses. You see bright colors and shapes. You feel the movement of the rides. You listen to the sounds of music and voices.
If I mention the ride ‘It’s a Small World’ you can immediately hear the song, see the dancing dolls, feel the movement of the boat ride. The ride comes to life in your mind. Frankly, it’s hard to get rid of either.
A good goal will do the same thing for you. Bring your goals to life by adding the details that appeal to all of your senses. Create your own Disney movie in your mind to motivate you to keep on track with your goals of becoming healthy.
In a minute, I’ll show you how to brighten up your goals. You’ll make them so real, they will be like the ‘Small World’ ride that you can’t get out of your head. You won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
That’s what you want to happen with your goals. You want your goals to sink deep into your subconscious mind so that you don’t have to make an effort to focus on them anymore. They become part of you. This is a form of self hypnosis.
You’ve probably seen the classic movie Jungle Book. There is one scene in which Kaa, the giant snake, attempts to hypnotize Mowgli so that he can eat him for dinner. Though Kaa is unsuccessful in his attempt, it is scenes like these that can leave people with a sense of unease about hypnosis. But there is nothing to be afraid of.
Self hypnosis is really just a way to hyper focus on your goals. Most people state a few goals and then forget about them right away. This is because the goals don’t have enough life to them. You want them to stick.
Here are two steps to make your goals real.
1. Describe your goal using all of your senses.
We learn best from stories and Disney is the master of them all. Write a story and create a brightly colored Disney movie (in your mind) starring you. Answering these questions will get you started.
What will losing 20 pounds look like? Describe in exact detail what you will be wearing. You’ll probably need some new clothes after losing all that weight. What color and style will they be?
What will it sound like? I bet you never thought that losing weight would sound like anything, well it does. People are going to be saying things to you when they see how fantastic you look. What will you hear them saying?
Will there be new smells and tastes? You will probably be trying new healthy foods. Describe what you will be experiencing.
Last and most important is to describe what it will feel like. Describe how it feels to put your clothes on and they button easily. Maybe they are even a bit loose. I know that feels good! What will it feel like to get out of bed in the morning with an extra burst of energy for the day?
2. Let your goals sink into your mind.
Write all of the details down on paper because it gives you a real and tangible goal. If you share them with the world, it helps to make them even more real.
Use a bit of self hypnosis to make it sink into your mind. It really is easy to do. Here’s how to do it very simply. Find a quiet moment where you won’t be disturbed, take a few deep breaths and read the story you’ve created. Read it whenever you get the chance. Run the movie through your mind as often as you can. It will sink into your mind and you will naturally begin to act as if it is true.
Sit back and enjoy your personal Disney movie in colorful, vivid detail. It’s those details that make you remember and stick to your goals.

Dad started out this week, on Sunday, singing the song from Sesame Street which asks. “Can you tell how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?” I thinks that a pretty good premise to end the week on. Yes, just how are we going to get to Port Canaveral and our DISNEY CRUISE on the DISNEY DREAM????
The bus is one way - Photo by gillfoto
The obvious way is to ride on one of those big blue Disney Cruise Luxury Escorted Motor Coaches. But is that the best way? Let’s take a peak.
Disney Cruise Bus
First lets take a look at the bus. (Disney Cruise Luxury Escorted Motor Coach) Disney has expanded it’s bus service to include a whole fleet of buses dedicated to the Disney Cruise Lines. They are even painted to match the beautiful Disney Cruise ships. A round trip from either the airport or a Walt Disney World hotel is around $70 per person. (Disney Cruise transportation only stops at the Disney Hotels and the airport.) If you are staying offsite you can arrange transportation to and from the airport.
Town Cars
If you want to go in style, you might want to check out a Town Car. Orlando is home to the biggest fleet of Town Cars in the world (except maybe Washington DC, and New York City, and … but there are a bunch of them). You can rent a Town Car for 4 (any Town Car companies that would like to advertise here, make sure to contact Dad) around $225 dollars (tip not included) or so round trip. (Which if you have a family of 4 will save you over $50.) This is really a cool way to get to Port Canaveral. Very upscale with your own driver.
Drive Yourself
As much as Dad likes to drive himself everywhere, this might not be the best option. If you are renting a car, your car ends up sitting in a parking lot for 3, 4, 5 or 7 days. You pay for a car that isn’t being used. Not a good idea. Plus parking at Port Canaveral costs $60, $75, $90 or $120 just to park your car. Parking is in a parking garage. There is preferred parking for $25 per night. It takes about an hour and a half to get from Walt Disney World to Disney’s Cruise Ship Terminal.

Probably the best way for Mrs. Mom and me to get to the Disney Dream and out dream Disney Cruise is to let Disney do the driving. We’ll probably drop off the rental car at the airport and catch the bus there. Or, we might (don’t tell Mrs. Mom I’m even considering this, she’ll kill me) just let Disney do the driving for the whole first week, and maybe for the whole trip. I don’t know if I can pull that off, but we might try it out.
So for now, Dad and Mrs. Mom will be riding one of those beautiful blue buses (did I mention dark blue is Dad’s favorite color) from Walt Disney World to our Disney Cruise.
Tomorrow is Healthy Habits Saturday. Dad has a whole lot of good stuff. Make sure to check back.
