Back when we started Healthy Habits Saturdays, we talked about the 10 Steps to a Stress Free Vacation. Through the months we’ve talked about 9 of the 10. This week it’s time to talk about number 10 which is Get Some Professional Help.
Help? Who needs help? This is a Disney World Vacation. I can do it all by myself. We all say this and think it, and for the most part it is true. You can make reservations, you can get a plan together, you can work out and get your bodies ready, yes, you can do all of this all by yourself.
That’s Dad an all by myself kind of guy. From the time I was born, I wanted to do everything all by myself. My Mom tells a story about the day we spent 4 hours arguing about who was going to pull down my pants so I could go to the bathroom (I was 2). I won. I did it all by myself. That’s me.
But even the most stubborn of us (like Dad) sometimes needs some help. Some Professional Help. The internet is a wonderful thing, but it has some drawbacks. One of the big ones is booking travel reservations. Years ago, before the internet, you went to a travel agent to get any travel booked. Airline tickets, hotel rooms, vacation packages, cruises all went through travel agents.
Now most travel agents won’t even book airline tickets (the airlines quit paying them commissions years ago). It’s become common for most travel to be booked directly by the traveler. This is not particularly a good thing.
Not a good thing? What are you talking about Dad?
Here’s what I’m talking about. A good travel agent is invaluable to a traveler. For example, let’s say you book your tickets through Expedia and you get to the airport and find out that your flight has been cancelled and the airline tells you they can’t get you to your destination until tomorrow. Oh, yeah, you just happen to be going on a cruise that leaves this afternoon. What can you do?
Call Expedia? Good luck with that one. What happens if you miss your cruise? What recourse do you have? There are horror stories out there of families losing thousands of dollars on vacations that could have easily been saved with a little professional help. Does it happen often. No. But it does happen.
This is where it’s good to have a great travel professional in your corner. They have contacts at airlines, cruise lines and access to the alternative flights that might get you where you want to go. It doesn’t always work out, but a GOOD travel agent will know where to turn.
For a Disney World vacation there is other professional help you should use. Of course there’s Touringplans.com. Yes, you can develop a touring plan for Disney World, but will it really work? Touringplans.com has developed AND TESTED thousands of plans. That’s what they do.
But do you need them? No, not really, but using them will save you time. Time in planning and time at Walt Disney World.
Yes, this sounds like a commercial. It is in a way, but I’m totally serious. Getting Professional Help will help minimize your stress on your vacation. Trust me.
