Monorail causality – No more riding in the front

Hey, Disney say it ain’t so.

It’s being reported that one of they safety enhancements that will come out of the monorail is that families will no longer be allowed to ride in the front of the monorail.

Here’s an open letter I’m sending to Disney. I hope everyone will do the same.

Dear Disney,

We are heart broken over your loss of valuable employee. The accident you suffered last week was absolutely tragic.

We hear rumors that as a result of the accident you are no longer going to allow families to ride in the cabs of the monorails. We understand this and are sympathetic to the reasons for this action. But we’d like to make a few observations.

There is risk in everything we do. Yes, it would have been an absolute tragedy for a family to have been in the front of that monorail. And yes, your insurance company would have had to pay out a bazillion dollars to the survivors. Yes, that would have been very bad press for your company. We understand this.

On the flip side, how many hundreds of thousands of people have loved the ride in the cab of the monorail. It’s the first thing our family does when we get to Disney World. Not being able to ride in the cab would be like coming down Main Street and seeing the castle all pink (yeah, like that was a success).

Let me offer a solution.

Restrict passengers from the monorail cab only when you are changing trains between the Magic Kingdom line to the Epcot line. (Since that was the problem.) You have plenty of advanced notice to make that happen.

Use some common sense. Those beautiful cabs were designed to accommodate guests. It really is the most romantic thing about the monorail. There is no better ride at Disney World than in the front of the monorail.

Please don’t overreact, even though that’s the national sport of America these days. Say no to the lawyers. Say no to the nanny state. Let kids experience the joy of seeing Disney World from the best seat in the house.

Here is our story about our kids first monorail ride. It’s precious. We’ll never forget it.

Please, don’t take away such a memorable event.

Thank you for your consideration.
Carl

Can Disney return riding in the front?

  3. Dad says:

Sadly, it looks like this wonderful program is gone forever.

  4. Susan says:

Hey Dad, you rock! But I’m not quite ready to throw in the towel and believe it’s gone forever. As a local passholder I try to visit WDW at least once a month and due to wishful thinking and an ever-hopeful, positive attitude I still ask a cast member if I can ride up front every time I ride. While I always get a relatively polite “No” the underlying tone varies from slight confusion (“Are you serious?”) to concealed contempt (“What are you, stupid?!”). Not once have I gotten a sympathetic “We’re sorry” or “Ain’t it a danged shame” type of reaction. But, as they say, “If you will it, dude, it is no dream.”

  5. Dad says:

Yes I do. (Sorry, I couldn’t avoid that.) I hope your right. I’d love to see it come back. I’m not optimistic.

  6. Kyle says:

Attention Time Travelers: Welcome to Nanny America where their is always enough money for lawsuits and not a single parking space.

There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow with lawsuits every day. There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow just an accident away.

Sorry if I sound liek a downer but the future does not look pretty.
