World’s Coolest Water Park

It’s about a million degrees in Oklahoma today, so I was thinking about something cool …

Now that's Cool

Around the world there are thousands of water parks. There are big water parks, little water parks, and even some really huge water parks. Most water parks are magnets for families all summer long. Disney is the worlds leader in amusement park innovation and when it comes to water parks they have created the Coolest Water Park in the Whole Wide World. Yes, there are some great pools around Disney World, like Nanea at the Polynesian Resort Orlando or the pool at Disney’s Boardwalk Villas Resort Orlando, but, on you next vacation, save some water time to see Blizzard Beach, it’s the coolest water park anywhere. What makes Blizzard Beach so cool? Blizzard Beach was created when a freak snow storm (blizzard) hit Orlando. Some enterprising businessman immediately built a huge ski resort. Needless to say the snow melted and the ski resort went broke. But before the snow all melts, a hip alligator is seen splashing around in all the snow. He becomes a fixture in the park. His name is Ice Gator. You’ll see him featured in logo and in pictures around the park. All of this comes together and … Poof Blizzard Beach. When you enter Blizzard Beach the remnants of the ski resort are everywhere. The chair lift will take you to the peak of Mount Gushmore (hey, it’s a Disney park, it has to have a mountain) where you can ride the most exciting rides in the park. Every where you look there is snow piled up (really it’s just white plastic, but it looks like snow). All the water slides and the pools have a ski resort feeling. The snack bars and support buildings look like those you will see at  any mountain ski resort. So what cool things are there to do at Blizzard Beach?  Glad you asked. The water slides on Mount Gushmore are grouped into “ski slopes”. The Green Slopes are the most intense in the park. They include Summit Plummet. One of the fastest water slides anywhere. It’s designed to look like a ski jump, like you’d see at the Olympics. The Purple Slopes are side by side racing slides.  There are three different “slopes”  the biggest of which is the Toboggan Races  where up to 8 can race each other. The only Red Slope ride is Runoff Rapids where 2 person inner tubes careen down one of three different courses. Probably the Coolest ride in the Worlds Coolest Water Park is Cross Country Creek. It’s a 3,000 foot long lazy river. Be warned, this river goes through an ice cave and Disney does a good job in simulating melting ice dripping down on unsuspecting riders. There is  a huge wave pool for those who just want to chill out in the water. Watch out for those out of control snow boarders. Smaller guests don’t get left out in the cold. They have their own cool play area. It’s called Tikes Peak. To enter Tikes Peak, you must be shorter than 48 inches or be with someone who is. New skiers need training and the Tikes Peak area is home to the Ski Patrol Training Camp. A great area where those who can’t ride the larger rides can train for the faster slopes. (This area even has icebergs.) Blizzard Beach is way Cool. Dad’s Blizzard Beach Page
